Ministry Guidelines
We know that Christ came not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many. We also know that the local church has no existence outside of the individual believers that comprise it, and therefore any ministries that a church has only exist within the context of the individual believers exercising the working of the Spirit through them. Therefore every believer within the company of a local church is a ministry.
We strongly believe that it will take more than being ministered to in a “family-friendly church” to build dedicated Christians. However, we have also sensed the danger of fathers’ ministering so much that they neglect their families. Here at WTBC, we use ministry as an opportunity to strengthen the family rather than divide it.
When participating in public ministry through our church, an individual first represents the Lord Jesus Christ, as well as the testimony of WTBC. Accordingly, some guidelines have been established for those participating in ministry with the church. Requirements may vary for different activities.
Although none will be found without spot until we reach Glory, we ask those who participate in public ministry to maintain a good testimony in everyday life—among believers and unbelievers.
Our appearance as believers should reflect an outward expression of an inward purity. Although appearance does not always reflect the heart of a believer, man will nevertheless form an opinion by what he sees. We therefore ask our ladies and girls who participate in ministry to maintain an outward expression of that inward purity by wearing modest apparel (unrevealing dresses, blouses and skirts—length, below the knee) as taught in the scripture 1 Tim 2:9. We ask our men and boys to wear slacks, shirt and tie also during these public ministry times. Some ministry activities may allow for more casual dress and will be specified as needed.
It is also important to remember that ministering for the Lord Jesus Christ through this church is a privilege and not a right. It is imperative that those involved in ministering maintain a servants attitude, if at any time one of our elders feel that you are not manifesting a servants attitude you may be asked to step aside from ministry involvement. Servants can minister, prima donnas do not.
It is required of stewards that a man be found faithful. Because of this those involved in ministering need to be faithful to all attendable services. It should be our desire to be with the saints except when there are circumstances beyond our control.
